New Investigators Research Grant Program

2011 Research Grant Competition

Deadline for Receipt of Applications: May 6, 2011

Begin the online application.

Nature of the Competition

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation) invites new researchers to submit proposals in competition for up to seven 2011 research grants of $5,000 each. The grants are designed to help further research activities of new investigators and should have particular clinical relevance to audiology and/or speech-language pathology. Proposals, while not limited in topic, are encouraged in the area of treatment efficacy and outcome studies.

For 2011, the ASHFoundation will offer a supplemental funding program to selected New Investigator grants through four American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Special Interest Groups:

  • Group 2 – Neurophysiology and Neurogenic Speech and Language Disorders
This grant supplement will be awarded in memory of Dr. Carol Frattali for her extraordinary dedication and contributions to the Group and to the area of neurogenic communication disorders.
  • Group 3Voice and Voice Disorders
  • Group 4Fluency and Fluency Disorders
  • Group 13Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders

Investigators who choose to submit a proposal in any of these content areas may elect to have their proposal considered for a special $2,000 grant supplement. The supplement is intended to enhance the research proposed in the ASHFoundation's New Investigator competition. For example, these funds have been used in the past to purchase additional materials or equipment, to run additional subjects, or to provide assistantship support. Eligible researchers who wish to be considered for this additional funding supplement must complete specific Special Interest Group Research Grant Supplement information. This is requested under the online Application Information tab in the section about supplemental funding. A panel appointed by each Group will review ASHFoundation-funded proposals and may select one or more that merits this supplement.

All research grant recipients will be announced and recognized at the November 2011 ASHA Convention in San Diego, California. Interested persons should carefully read the section on eligibility, and having determined that all criteria are met, begin the online application.
