ASHFoundation Receives Special Memorial Gift

The ASHFoundation is so grateful to receive two special gifts totaling $16,000 from Marv Dickerson in memory of his wife, Mary V. Dickerson.  After a long career in the communication sciences, Mary V. passed away on June 12, 2017. She served in faculty positions at East Tennessee University and San Jose State University, and also served in volunteer leadership roles with ASHA and the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Mary V. loved the ASHFoundation and offered one of her greatest gift to the organization when she encouraged her husband, Marv, to accept the nomination to join the Board of Trustees. There, he served as vice president of Finance from 2001 to 2007.

Mary V. and Marv established a legacy gift to the ASHFoundation in their will, but upon Mary V.'s passing, Marv wanted to also pay tribute to her more immediately. "Mary V. loved students, she recognized the promise they hold for the future of her profession and she was passionate about nurturing and supporting them throughout their education. I wanted to do something to honor Mary V.’s dedication to students. This gift would have made her very proud." said Marv Dickerson.
